Surgical Instruction

It is important to us that our patients are informed during every step of their treatment so that they are well prepared and have the chance to ask questions. The following information is a starting point for researching your procedure and should assist in developing a list of questions to ask during your consultation.

With industry advances, periodontal surgery has become very comfortable. Some post operative discomfort is expected. 9 out of 10 patients only require over the counter pain relievers following surgery. Prior to your consultation prepare a medication list that the doctor can go over with you. Your initial appointment will last approximately 60 minutes and include a full mouth evaluation and radiographs. Typically gum disease treatment begins with a specialized cleaning often referred to as a "deep" cleaning. The hope is with a periodontal cleaning and improved oral home care surgery can be avoided. If some diseased areas remain periodontal surgery may be right for you.

Before any recommended surgery be sure to brush and floss like normal. Take any mediations as directed unless you are informed not to take certain medication. Post surgical instructions will be provided. Rest assured most patient do great and are back to work the following day.
