Gum Grafting

Receded gums can lead to sensitivity, unsightly smiles and eventual loose teeth. This condition can be treated predictably with a soft tissue graft. This procedure is called a gum graft, connective tissue graft or free gingival graft.

Soft tissue grafting is a corrective procedure that restores the gum to its natural, healthy state. Using tissue from the roof of the mouth or donated tissue, the receded gums are grafted. The goal of the graft is to cover exposed tooth and root surfaces. This grafting encourages new tissue growth that will enable the gums to return to its original position around the teeth. The procedure is routine and with new techniques it entails a minimal amount of downtime and discomfort.
